A bonnet scoop without a top mount intercooler is a bad idea because it will slow down the air flow through your radiator/front mount intercooler/oil cooler/ac condensor.
The theory is that in front of the radiator etc is a very high pressure area because of all the air slamming into it. Behind it inside the engine bay is a much lower pressure area because the air is being sucked out from under the engine and from the back of the bonnet. This large pressure differential forces the air to flow through the radiator etc, rather then around it which it would much rather do because it is far easier.

When you go putting a bonnet scoop on your car it's forcing air into the top of the engine bay, increasing the pressure. This lowers the pressure differential between the front of the car and the engine bay, and makes it harder for the air to flow through the radiator etc because it is now even easier for it to go around rather then through.

So, if you really must have a bonnet scoop without a top mount intercooler either have it facing backwards or don't go cutting a hole in your bonnet, just mount it on top. Sure having a bonnet scoop that dosen't go anywhere is ricer styles, but so is having one that dosen't have a top mount under it.

how does all this bonnet scoop shite figure? i got a scoop on mine sits nicely above my weber and the cars never run better gettin that much cooll air. plus what about all the drag cars tat have huge scoops sittin on top of the bonnetand there running 8 sec 1/4 mile or even lower!

u seem to be missin the point... there's no purpose in decreasing the pressure of the engine bay, as it wont DO aanything at all... like, what's it gonna do to help if you dont have a carby engine? :P nuttin :P he's sayin that as there's not intercooler top mounted and such, there's no point, 'cause there's no benifits...

Yes well, obviously if your car is carburreted then the bonnect scoop has a purpose. But for an EFI engine, like most Cordia's, they arn't any good.

You will also notice that a lot of those drag cars don't have air to air intercoolers or radiators and a completly sealed front end. Obviously they don't have the problems of reduced air flow through the radiator...

surely its not gonna create that much difference. everyday driving would benefit wouldnt it. have more cool air in the engine bay, motor runs cooler not as much wear and tear? also a passage way for hot air to exit so ur air filter can suck in less hot air?

yeh, part about scoops was very interesting. but personal arguments were a bit much. last time i checked hassling each other didnt make cordias go faster.
