So how many people with GSR's in SA are still about?

I've got back into them after building a quick VR4 and having an Evo 6 lol. Stupid Cordia's, they got me by the balls.
Basically I'm building a silver AB GSR, VR4 conversion, Evo brake set up, magna rears, make it handle as good as possible and throw it around Mallala with the GSR/Evo club (I'm on the committee). I've gotta paint it and still waiting on my god damn ARP bits. Just a mild but strong build. Probably a new B16g, I just want to make about 160kw atw, should be fun enough around the track.

You really had an Evo 6 & went back to a Cordia!?
What happened? Or is it too traumatising to talk about!?

An Evo 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition is my dream car

I've just bought the 86 AC GSR that was in the forum classifieds a few days ago.

http://s939.photobucket.com/albums/ad236/carrot-76/

It was between the AC or an 88 Suzuki Alto RSR 4wd that was for sale down near Victor on eBay - 660 cc's of 4WD Turbo fury!! 8)

Anyhow, because I'd built up an 83 AA VR4 (which I regretfully sold about 3 years ago) I just had to buy the AC when I saw it (and drove it!).

One of the previous owners removed the power steering rack & fitted a manual rack. God knows why - it's like trying to drive a truck loaded with lead. Now I've got to find all of the power steering parts and re-fit it. Same with the air-con.

Also, it keeps stalling when pulling uo to a stop at traffic lights, and idles only just above stalling (600-700 RPM) - The guy I bought it off reckons Fours & More said it is a vacuum leak?

I'd love to do a DIY VR4 conversion, but have never tried to swap out an engine before.

Would this be far too difficult for someone who isn't a mechanic, and doesn't have access to a fully equipped workshop?

Very nice Andrew, how long till it's done? a 2.3 with a stupid big turbo in a FWD is just too much spin for me lol. I just can't wait to get onto a track, I wasn't game enough in the Evo, if I had an off I wouldnt have the funds to replace anything that broke! Hence I'm starting out cheap in the Cordia and now with the new job cash flow is much better, plus no car loans to pay off :D

Johnathon, it's not that big of a deal. I'd be more than happy to help, my labour rate is much cheaper than a workshop ;) I'm good mates with Patrick, he sold that AC GSR to the guy you bought it off. He had it for 2 days and got defected, sat for about a year, then spent about $1800 getting it through Regency, I did most of the work on it at Portside. There were quite a few lil niggles with it, but that is to be expected. It didn't have power steering when Pat had it either. A Leb raped it before Pat got it, had ugly as fudge chromies, blue cooler piping, blue block and mesh everywhere!
Nothing at all wrong with the 6, if anything it was too good. It was weird being in a car that just went without any dramas...ever. It was too new for me, it was great owning it and driving it like it should be, but it made me realise that I like older cars. I'll get back in a rally/race only VI in a year or so. Brad bought my Evo.

Would love to have a meet like in the old days! I remember the night when that photo was taken Brad. My twin cam Cordi, your sexual cordi, Rob/Johnathons Cordi and Pat's Cordi. That was the night Pat got defected lol. Ah the good ol days!

why all these complaints about no power steering? I've got 2 cordias; one with manual, other power... yes, power easier... but manual's alright :P builds your arms up ;)

Yes, the curse of the over the top mesh still lives on in my car!

Image

That's great news re: your offer to help with a VR4 conversion Jon, thanks very much!! :D

Guys like you are about the only thing keeping the Cordia community going.

Now to just buy and hide a 4G63T without the missus finding out!! ;)

Likewise. if you ever need a spare set of hands with your conversion, I'd be very happy to help.

I'm no mechanic, but I can do liquid & filter changes, handy with tools/powertools, and build & repair computers as a side business. Plus I've owned a VR4 Cordia before & been around cars & the performance scene long enough to have a fair understanding of engines/turbos/suspension and electrical.

Ah there it is lol. No worries about the help mate. I'm just trying to get my bank balance back up again. I need to ease up a bit as I have a marriage and a massive honeymoon to pay for.

I reckon mine should be on the road within a month or so.

Be happy to contibute to the bank balance if you can help me get Power Steering back into the car!? :)

That's even if I can source all of the parts. Can't even get my hands on a power steering rack ATMO, let alone a pump. City Dismantlers just had 3 stripped shells.

It was hard enough finding parts 4-5 years ago, now it seems the "WTB" adds outnumber the "For Sale" posts 4 to 1 !!

Even considering importing a power steering rack from the U.S. as my missus has rellies there, but don't know if an American sourced rack will fit an Australian delivered Cordia?

If you need power steering visit the Elizabeth (womma road) U-Pull-it.......they have at least 4 cordia's there.

I raped an AC GSR a couple weeks ago. It has power steering. I left the engine in a bad way in the engine bay...so it might be difficult to get it out lol....so more than likely the rack will still be there.

I've never removed power steering from a car before, let alone a Cordia.

I wouldn't even know where to start.

Southern auto wreckers have complete power steering & air-con setup, but want about $900 for both.

Sounds like a complete rip off if I could in theory go to U-Pull It and pay a hell of a lot less.

Plus I could buy another not so good Cordia for $900 and have a near complete parts car to remove bits from at my leisure!!

Lol. I'll go remove it and charge you $400 for it haha. Go get your hands dirty, you only learn by doing it!

Definitely not afraid to get my hands dirty - I've owned a Gemini and a Cordia before!! :?

But, how will I know I've got all the parts / Hoses, brackets, etc?

How do you get to the steering rack & associated bits in the wreck with the engine in the way, and no hoist? Or can you only get at it if you come across a wreck that's had the engine pulled already?

Sorry if I sound like a noob, but I've only ever tinkered with what was already under the bonnet, and never started pulling whole components out & putting others in.

The rack on the Cordia is quite easy to get out. Can get it with the engine in the car very easily. Just make sure you get the rack, rack bushes, pump, lines, brackets, belt etc
Basically remove the tie rod ends from the hubs, unbolt the two clamp brackets holding the rack to the car, remove the power steering lines, remove the knuckle from the steering column, remove the pump and take the brackets with you.
From memory that AC didnt have a pump on it, but there are other Cordias there.

Goodluck.

Was good to see Brad out there, Burple is looking great! Had an excellent lineup of cars. Some of them breathtaking and my mind was boggling at the amount of cash that gets thrown around. A good mate, flipped his R Colt, poor fucker....but that's racing. I offered to buy his wheels/semis and Recaros of him, for some reason that made him laugh

Didn't see no Cordias in the park or track :( Mine better be finished next time!
