A mate of mine has a Cosworth EJ25 sitting and waiting to be put in his STi. The garage he has the car in now have taken the old engine out but are working like slugs to put in the cosworth. He's had a go at the mechanic in charge and he now fears the work won't be carried out to the quality required. He's not a hands on sort of guy but he doesn't like being ripped off either.

Obviously there are big bucks being spent here. He thought he had done his research regarding a mechanic who would do the job well but now he's getting pissed due to being fudged around. I won't mention the garage he has it in at the moment but i thought it might be worthwhile mentioning it here in case someone knows of a top line mechanic/garage that will do the work quickly and to the highest standards. He also needs a mechanic who doesn't mind him watching all the work being carried out.

You'd think a place willing to do this conversion would be easy to find but he has not had much luck, or perhaps he's just an asshole who pisses off every mechanic he comes across. I would have thought Cosworth would've sent him info on a local but that is not the case. Either way there should be a Subaru expert who can do it somewhere in Sydney, preferrably in the south/southwest.

If anyone knows anything let us know. I've seen the specs on this engine and with 400kw at the wheels all day every day it's obvious the work has to be done by a pro. He wants it done by christmas so he might be in the turd, hence this post.

didnt do his research very well, shoulda logged onto somewhere like wrx.com.au and asked there. If he has the money to spend on that sort of motor, why didnt he use a high end workshop?
Not too many places will let you sit and watch, public liability etc.

Yeah he should have logged in to the interweb but thats not really his cup of tea. I've told him numerous times to check the forums but he won't for whatever reason. You say he should have used a high end workshop. Well thats what i'm on here asking about.

Does anyone know of a high end workshop in sydney that can deal with this sort of engine installation?

Looks like i'll have to log into the wrx forums myself. Not to many cosworth powered soobies running around.

I mean this dude has money and knows how to spend it. He just seems to rub most people up the wrong way....which is why i guess he wants to watch the work being done.

Who did he buy it from? Couldn't they fit it?
BEL Garage, I believe, are one of the few who deal in these motors.

Funny you should mention BEL. That's where it's at and he's not happy with them. But they seem to have picked up their pace last i heard.

I'm not worried. It's his money and he'll sort it out. As long as he takes me for a spin once it's done.... ;)

Fooool.....what does Mr T have to do with it

Only kidding mate. He mentioned something to do with MRT but i wasn't really listening at the time. He knows about them but there might be some issue there or whatnot.

Here is a link with one of his other cars.

http://www.powerplayimports.com/

About a fifth the way down the page, one of z cars is his.

400kw at the wheels is a big claim.
I have seen fully race prepped 2.5l motors struggle to reach 300 at the wheels. 400kw flywheel power is more realistic.

Would love to see this once its all done though, sounds very tasty.

That's what he told me. I'd like to see it too tbh. The whole thing will be cosworth, down to the driveshafts. I'm 99% sure he's using a Haltech. And he's putting a T04Z snail on it which i've never heard of. And the gearbox...well this is the best bit imo. He's been quoted a price from Quaife (spelling). Mate this guy will have the ants pants of rexxies but it won't be staying in oz. If he has his way it'll be on show in Greece and he'll be making weekend trips to the Nordeschleiffe. Lucky bastard!

Anyone know much about Superlap? or powerlap? or whatever the hell it's called. It's on the same weekend as the Melbourne F1 race. Either Oran Park or Wakefield, not sure.

Anyway i just found out that this cosworth conversion, if finished, will be flying under the banner of Croydon Motorsports for the Superlap day. They've got a 4 TB Tomei intake manifold which requires massive modifications...so should be interesting.
