Post subject:  who knows their gemini's??

anyone out there know their gemini's real well...
i have sort of aquired one with a cage n all and i need a motor to go in it...
it currently has the poxy 1.6 engine in blown up form ( sans one piston) is there anything more exiting that bolts pretty much straight in. i beleive there is a 2.6 litre which does but im not entirely sure
it will be for offroad use only as you have probally guessed...

any advice much welcome :)

its gunna be a cheap offroader to take to the local dirt circuit. :p so SR20DET is a bit out of the question.

i been told the g200z 2.6 from a rodeo fits.....

yep the G200 would be the way to go either with a rejetted carby or weber, extractors and about a 2.25" exhaust. the models from 79 onwards (TD,TE,TF,TG) were the better ones as they had the tougher salsbury diff as used in the 6 cyl toranas and also had RTS- radial tuned suspension and it did handle alot better than the older gemis, although if you change all your suspension it doesn't really matter. many many years ago i was into geminis and had about 4 of them so i do know a bit about them. the 1.6 litre is the G160 and the 1.8 is the G180.
I think if you do go the 2 litre G200 you may have to get it engineered but you'll have to check in your state if its necessary

yep the g180 or g200 is the way to go put a cam in and what gsr_man said

as for sr20det and rotary im pretty sure they dont allow it anymore power to weight issue.

what happened to the good ol days when you could put a v8 in a gemini you see them at the nats all the time.

goodluck

budget is limited at this stage its just gunna be an offroader so it will break at some stage so about 800bucks tops :p i have a wrecker who can source me engines so i just need one that fits with no or minimal mods.

engineering is also no problem and it wont be used onroad ever ...

Post subject:  Re: who knows their gemini's??

there are 2 motors that can bolt straight in.

first is the 2.0 ltr piazza turbo motor, buy them from jap wreck.
second is a early 90's rodeo motor, 2.6 i think..
v6 commo motors fit but apparently you have to chop into the firewall.
sr20 and fj20 fit, but need playing around with a little bit to get them in..
Rotors can fit but you need to change the cross member..

My girlfriends brother had one, and this what he said.. hope it helps.

yeah its gunna be done very much on the cheap, so ill look at a piazza (if it bolts straight in) or more likeley the rodeo motor. ill try and have pics of the shell in the next few weeks

Post subject:  Re: who knows their gemini's??

Yay finally picked up the shell today, i recon its a TX gemini, it has a cage and all sorts bolted in.
the motor tries to start but it has a fair bit of blowby.

i think at the moment we will try and get the engine out tomorrow and see if it rebuildable on the cheap its the 1600. and maybe look for a 1.8 or 2 litre isuzu engine. any firther suggestions. its not EVER going to be on the road and i dont want anythign that is run by an ECU. the 2.6 rodeo engines are proving hard to find!!!

does anyone know if the VB commodore etc diff centres are the same as im chasing a mini spool to fit it. also a good source for gemini bits?

the car is set up for dirt circuit/
