It's a tailwhip, I still suck at them.

I ride a combo of flatland and a bit of street. Not real good at either! LOL!

PM me. :)

Don't save it for PM's. This is off topic and people here discuss much worse.

Ok well in that case let the discussions continue!!!!

Here's my kind of new flatland/street setup:

Image
WeThePeople DIV 19.3" TT frame.

Image
Inertia zero offset flatland forks & KHE Alchemy pegs.

Those pics are a little old now so there's a few new parts & loads more scratches.... lol

How much it set you back? talking t oa few guys from uni the other day, decent BMX's can set you back 2.5-5k.

i think that'd hurt more than falling off one.

haha..if you spend 2.5k for a bmx youra bit silly imho.!!! those gt carbon ultrabox's are a bit of an overkill

Last time I rode, A fully piped out bmx was about $800-$900. Which included a nice frame, Primo cranks, welgo pedals, oddeysey lumberjack bars/levers..etc etc On a Then good S+M frame :)

shit's gotten better since then obviously :P

people want all this direct pedal shit now. and the frames aint carbon, but they are damn pricey!

for a mid-range crank now, you're lookin at $250 alone. and that's mid-range ;)

I was actually working it out today and I think it's set me back about the equivalent of around AUS$900 and that's with a lot of second hand parts (loving eBay for the frame). It's been a gradual build though not that expense all in one hit...

If you were to fully deck out a top stuff flatland (or any) bmx with all new parts you could easily go over $2000 without a problem. I could never justify that unless of course I was hella skilled which I certainly am not...... LOL!

Must have been a while ago then! People (not me) spend that just on a frame & forks now! lol

I know a load of street riders on Fit S3's which I think are about AUS$700 just for the frame.

Haha...My mate used to have a giant warp ds1...He snapped it and upgraded to an atx1 With rockshock boxxer forks, xtr bit's and pieces. It was a helluva nice bike.

My first bike was a diamond back vlink 1.2...Which was more of a crosscountry bike which i tried to pimp out for downhill.. But in the end it was to bloddy harsh and I couldnt keep up with my mate

I then upgraded in late 01, To a 1 year old santacruz super 8, marzocchi bomber forks, truvativ hussefelts and Mavic demax rims...God it was a beast and i got it for $2900 Back then which was a farken steal!!!. "WORD OF ADVICE...Dont leave your bike on the front veranda for more than 10 fudging minutes" some bastard stole my pride and joy (WHICH MY MOTHER HAD PAYED FOR) I wasnt a very popular boy that night

Cool, nice ride GSR. Too bad the prices are so crazy even for rider owned company bikes. Sometimes I just shake my head and wonder how kids these days can afford it. Don't ride much these days since I did my acl in 15 yrs ago, was going for a massive gap ateshit instead. Keep on riding Bro. and ditch the front brake ya wimp.

Haha! I hardly touch the brake while riding flatland now. But living where I do I need to keep at least one brake on the bike and the front is the most versatile. New brake pads are cheaper than new shoes! LOL!

Hardly touch the front brake??!! I thought you said you weren't that good :o . The flatland boys are progressing really good going brakeless. Seen Phil Dolan on u tube awhile back and I'm thinking Holy Shit, but I gotta give props to the street riders who started the whole brakeless thing.

just to revive this thread there seem to be a few people here who know their BMX's .Im looking at getting one, i ride mountain bikes most of the time and a few mates have BMX's and i recon it would be a good way to build up skill.
im about 6'4" tall so what size do you think a good frame / setup would be is a 21" toptube going to be big enough.
also what are your thoughts on gearing. everyone these days seems to be running tiny as front sprockets?
i just want to muck around on the street with it, there isnt a proper bmx/skate park here yet.
i can get Specialized and ADB stuff at a very good price so thats sort of my choices, and maybe we the people frames not sure yet.
cheers

Yeh 21" top tube will be fine. At over six foot you'll need the extra space.

I run a 19.3" top tube but I built it for flatland with some street/park thrown in (it's still too small though). As for gearing as long as you keep the ratio at around 2.5:1 you'll be right. Tindy front sprockets are just the trend. Look at some of the beginner entry level completes from WeThePeople, Fit, Felt, MirraCo, Felt, Subrossa, etc... If you just want to muck around I wouldn't bother building a custom from scratch.

:)
