Hello all!

So i've been here a while but just floated and not really posted much.

So allow me to re-introduce myself. I'm Damien :D!
and this is my cordia.

1987 AC Gsl 1.8L 5spd
Image

I smashed this thing a number of years ago, rebuilt it back up to how it is now. Which looks ok but when i painted it, i was still learning how to spray!

Anywho so plan is to restore it even closer to its original glory, and make it a mad N/A touge car :)

Body will stay stock looking with small tastfull alterations. New wheels.
and very importantly. Replacing the worn out 300,000km 4g37.
with a 90,000km N/A DOHC 4g63. (107kw stock, with some small mods should make a little more :) )

at the moment collecting more parts. and build should get underway in a few months.

So far, i have bought my
-engine + all stuff to put it in.
-New 16" Advanti Racing 7 spokers.

and am on ebay currently ordering parts :)

stuff to buy.

- 30mm drop king springs.
- New front end bushings (tie rod, wishbone bushings and balll joint, sway bar bushings)
- maybe rebuilt steering rack.
- slotted front rotors, and tp magna hubs + slotted rotors for them too.
- new HD clutch
- some pretty engine bits that i havent decided on.
- alarm system
- Paint.... lots of it.

The decided colour scheme for the car is
- top half the stock gun metal grey colour
- bottom half in jet black

(all done in high gloss)

and the mags painted a washed out bronze, and small pin stripe design yet to be decided on the sides of thecar in same colour as wheels.

anywho this is pretty much all for now.

Opinions and suggestions welcome :D!!

Cheers,
Damien

thanks guys :)

pretty much with the seats

i just took off the orignal brakets from the seats. (which pretty much involved mutalating it if your not carefull from memory)

then bought some 60mm wide (i think but can mesure if you guys want) 5mm thick mild steel.
and some high tensile bolts.

basicly heres how i did it.

STEP 1.
Install the brackets back onto the car without the seats attached.

STEP 2.
cut up steel, and lay flat on the rails (there are some bumps. but just lay them towards the inner until you can make them fit flush), and tack them on.
AS per the pic

Image

STEP 3.
measure up the holes on the bottom of the new seats. and mark out on the steel plates.
MAKE SURE YOU GET THEM IN THE RIGHT SPOTS!
The idea of marking it while in the car is that you know the distance the brackets are apart. if you do it outside the car you may make a mistake and may be to close or to far apart.

then take off the brackets with the steel plates still attached.

and drill out both the holes for the original rails to bolt too the plates.
and the new hole positions for the new seats. like so

Image

STEP 4.
Now first. put bolts through the original brackets into the plates, and tighten.
second attach the seats using some spacers to clear the brackers and the bolts holding the plates to the brackets.

like so. (side view)

BLUE = new seat bottom (may be a thread in the seat instead of a bolt that you attach through. i cant remember which way mine was)
BLACK = Spacers
Grey = Steel plate
Red = orginal bracket
yellow = bolt from the steel plate going to the seat.
green = bolt going from the steel plate to the orginal bracket.

Image

STEP 5.

Bolt the seat back into the car.
if you did measure everything right it should all line up.
In all honesty make sure you lined it all up right before hand.. otehrwise just cut new plates and start again.. its cheap.. like $10 bucks a metre at bunnings wearhouse

Should look liek this.

Image

obviously clean it all up and paint it, i took this photo before i did that.

and with both sides :)

Image

NOW.
important..

the seat belt buckles are usually on the seats.

but tehre is no where to put them once you take the actuall seats apart to get the brackets off (welded into the upper area)"

what i did was make a 15cm extention comming from the inner rear mount that the seats bolt up to on the chasis of the car. and put the original spokes off of the seats on a rotating bolt thingy.

can take photo of it if you guys want details tomrow afternoon :).

Enjoy, its pretty easy overall. just a bit fiddly. take your time.

OH and after you do all that.

go get it certified. The above method is more then sufficiant as long as you use thick steel plates, and use HIGH tensile bolts. i think its Tensile 8 or above. have to get new ones for all the bolts except the chasis bolts.
costs about 150 bucks for the mod plate.

Cheers,
Damien

Yeah thanks for the info, excellent detail.

Did using the spacers raise the seating position very much? My head is already pretty close to the roof with the standard seats.

well in my diagram i exaggerated allot. to represent it better.

we are talking about a 15mm raise.

but i found aftermarkets generally sit lower (from the bottom of the seat where it mounts to the part your ass sits on is lower)
so overall its actually lower then stock seats even with the spacers.

i'm 6' 1.5" and i have a decent amount of head room with these seats installed.

Well today i started stripping out the stuff from the cordia's engine bay.

today is the last day it will ever drive with the 4g37. Which is kinda sad.

but oh well time for it to start its new life once the transplant is over. :D!
