Hi guys,

I don't know too much about ignition systems... it's one of the areas I haven't really paid too much attention to...

Can someone explain to me what the multi-coil setup for the microtech actually is and, more importantly, exactly what it's benefits are?

Thanks :D

Astaroth.

in my case, you have four separate coils, one controling each spark plug, and each fired sequentially by the computer. advantage is infinitely adjustable ignition timing, no point drift, and a stronger spark. ie: 1 coil per sparky rather than one coil doing them all.

So instead of using a dizzy to distribute spark, the computer controls each coil directly?

How hard would it be to fit a multi-coil setup to a Microtech that's been installed with a single coil? I'd imagine it would need a re-tune and stuff, wouldn't it?

Cheers dude,

Astaroth.

yep, no dizzy, if someone can host pics i'll show you mine. I'd imagine it would require a tune for the coils, then maybe it won't, i really don't know. each coil connects straight to the spark plug lead for its plug. To install you need the four coils ($60 each), brackets for the coils, wiring to connect all the wires from the computer up to them and the skill to install it.

Sweet... Will have a think about whether it's worth it, sounds good but for a couple of hundred bucks it might not be that high on my list just yet :P

Can you email those pics to astaroth-AT-iprimus.com.au?

Thanks dude :P

Astaroth.

Aslo note you don't run spark throught the dizzy, but the computer still needs it's crank angle signal to know when to fire each coil..
This is the system i'm getting for my cordia when i run multipoint..

Also what computer are you running....I'm not sure if they all can run 4 coils interchangable with single coil...you can always go to microtechefi.com and ask them too..

If you have the LT8 MicroTech, then you will need to send it off to Microtech in Putney, NSW to have them reconfigure it to suit multi coils. This will cost you $200. Then you will need to wire up the 4 coil set up and get the car retuned.
