Post subject:  not sure if tempurature guage is working correctly

noticed when I drove the cordia home after purchasing it that the temp guage was staying very low. It would only reach just above the first dash near the bottom of the guage if i was sitting at lights then would drop below that dash and sit almost on the bottom while driving.

Is this normal for a cordia or does it indicate a sensor issue? I am used to my magna that goes half way on the temp guage quickly and just sits there no matter how I am driving.

Nope, just check to see if you are running a thermostat.............my bet is you don't have one.

The easy way to check is (when the engine is cold) remove the radiator cap, start the engine, if the water is moving through the radiator it has no thermostat.

No thermostat at all hey.... well I spose thats one way to keep temps down. Can't check it at the moment as car has no battery but will check it as soon as i get a chance to put a working battery in.

Wouldn't be the first time I have had a car with dodgy cooling system issues. One of my previous magna's had a manualy adjustable thermostat put in it that was sat to fully open. NO idea why as when i found out and replaced it the car ran fine with no overheating issues.

I put a battery in the cordia and check this tonight. The coolant was sort of moving, more like bubbling. Would this still indicate I have no thermostat?

Spose the best way to check is to crack open the thermostat housing.

Blown head gasket if you got alot of bubbling.
