Hi guys and gals,

Soon I should be trying to fit my vr4 motor thats in my cordia into my 1986 colt.I've been trying to get this underway for quite a while and with a bit of help and knowledge from fellow mitsubishi fans hope it will be a bit less daunting. Dad and me put the vr4 motor in the cordia back in 2000 and found it quite easy to achieve, but after researching this a bit more and more i'm just wondering if i'm biting off more than i can chew.

I'm trying to clear a few things up first before i get too involved and start something i shouldn't of. I will probably be putting a few questions up in here over the next few months as i try progress through it.

First things that are worrying me is:

If i put the cordia 5 speed in the colt, is it the shifter thats gives each of the gates to select the gears or is it the box? The colt has a 4 speed. Would i have to find a colt 5 speed shifter? that might be difficult.

I was even thinking of an auto box if i can get one to fit and work.

Would anyone have the wiring diagram for a japspec vr4 galant? I am going to try and tag everything as it is set up in the cordia and match it up when putting it into the colt. My main concern is wiring it into the ignition of the colt because it was never set up properly when it was in the cordia.

BTW, the whole conversion that went into the cordia was from a jap spec front cut. No aftermarket computers , air filters etc and i was going to transfer the cordias mechanicals into the colt to make it easier for engineering, hopefully. So when offering opinions, info etc it will be based on std items. I might change to the flat panel air filter from a magna if it helps with room instead of the barrel but that will be a while yet.

I'm pretty sure driveshaft/s need shortening, i'm hopeing up grading the brakes is as easy as unbolting the whole assembly off the strut and ball joint and swapping them over, but i guess i wont know till i try.

If anyone has experience with anything that might have to do with the conversion PLEASE feel free to offer assisstance cause i will happily take it.

When i finally work out how to get pics up i will try show everyone what i'm working with.

Anyway thats enough novel for now, hope you guys can get as excited with helping out as i do when i think of having 160kw under the right foot in a car thats about 900 kg :)

Thanks in advance,
Brad

With the help of Bitza we will be puting my old 4g62 into my Colt so I guess we may be able to help each other out regarding issues we find along the way.

The VR4 option sounds a bit more complicated than the 62 but well worth the extra effort.

I will be using magna discs for my brake upgrade.

Good luck with it and keep the updates coming

If you manage to get this sorted it will be amazing!! I have always been into Hot Hatches and this would be one of the greatest.

I'm from England and we had a Renault 5 GTT (Check them out), this was a tiny rocket, think that was a 2 litre turbo. But the thing with these if they were ever in a crash all the weight is at the front so it just crushed. And with the laws in this country it might be worth checking first.

Can't wait to see some pictures though, what an exciting project :)
