before i did this the car was running fine, i was reading about making the cordia flutter by cutting the afm, currently it has a stock black tubing from the turbo up into this casing and inside is a filter and had cords going intonit i though thats what i was meant to cut.clearly not because now it isnt staying on it just dies.. ended up trying to recconect the
wires by twisting the ends to each othrr and the car stays on for longer but will die again quickly im assuming its because of the thing that fell out of the filter while i took it apart :( ,here is a pic Image


also as i was playing with the filter this came out and dont know where it goes pease help Image

You really should make sure you're doing the right thing before hand, but this is the benefit of hindsight.

Cutting the airbox itself is what causes 'flutter' which in itself is pointless as you are introducing hot air from
the engine bay into the intake. Most cars but turbocharged cars even more so love cold air.

Those two pieces are part of the AFM, and route air within the airbox. They are riveted to the AFM unit.
You could probablly repair it but given that you've cut the wiring I would suggest that you replace the
airbox with an intact unit and refrain from cutting it.

ye i know i f**ked up, where can i buy a replacement from? also do you have any idea what the second picture is? where do i put it ? i think after i put it back the car will run

You'd have to get one from a wreckers. I have one for sale which I can post (Albury, NSW)
but you may be able to find one closer to home.

The two pieces should fit together inside the airbox as below.

There should also be a rubber O ring that sits between them. It's about 10cm in diameter so it should be pretty
easy to find if it dropped out as well.

And don't worry man, we all stuff sh!t up from time to time. Only way to learn.

Just make sure you solder and tape up those wires and you should be sweet.

if you want flutter, as shadow said, cut the airbox.
but the flutter will be minimal and the car will most likely run like a box of shit. Then you'll have to go buy a proper airbox again to get it running nicer.
I would seriously consider replacing that afm now anyway, get an airbox with it and you have a spare to replace the one you chop up for the flutter!

The best way to get flutter is to do it properly - aftermarket computer, MAP sensor (no afm), metal intake pipe with pod filter

I don't have a cordia anymore, so can't really show you.

but basically your airbox/afm/filter setup has 3 components.

1) the big metal round box/cannister thing that is bolted into the engine bay. This is the airbox
2) the plastic thing inside which bolts into the airbox and has wires connected to it. This is the air flow meter (AFM). This is the part that fell apart above, and the wires you cut connect to it.
3) inside the airbox, sitting between the afm and the inside of the box is your air filter.

what you want to do is remove the airbox from the car, remove the filter and afm from the airbox then cut a hole in the SIDE of the airbox so that when you put the airfilter back in you will be able to see it.
Do not cut the bottom - where the rubber intake pipe connects.
Do not cut the top - where the AFM bolts to

I don't recommend doing it as I said above, but if you want to try that is how.
Also as I said above, i'd recommend having a second uncut airbox so if it runs like crap (which it probably will) you can put it back to normal if you wish.

just saw bitza's pic in the other thread. THAT is how you cut your airbox, on the side.
I'd start with cutting out a smaller section first to see how it runs and sounds, and then cut more out if you want to.
The more you cut, the louder the flutter might get. But the car might also start to run rougher

oh, and you also can't have a blow off valve fitted.
Having a large front mount intercooler will also increase your flutter as will boost pressure

i dont have a bov, oi oggy how does this sound instead of fkn around with the airbox, the dumppipe pretty big and it goes into a 2" exhaust then the muffler.. what im planning to do is get a exhaust shop to weld a 3" pipe from the dump then justbstraight through, bad choice? ive read straight exhaust set ups.are better for the turbo?

well, it won't do much - if anything, for your flutter.
but going a bigger exhaust on a turbo car is never really a bad choice if your chasing power. I would probably put 1 straight through muffler on it though to help quiet it down a bit. That's all I have ever run and still run now.
If you have the money to, replace the dump pipe and down pipe as well.

ye not interested in the flutter dont want to fudge anything up, well the guy i bought it from put a customdumppipe on it and its big, ill do what you said to make it not so loud, just wonderin does it pop abit when downshifting?

yeah, you will probably here a few pops and gurgles with a bigger exhaust.
