Update for this afternoons efforts:

- Gearbox filled with oil.
- Alternator plugs adapted and fitted to the cordia harness.
- Tacho wired up and working.

Actually drove the cordia out of the shed and back in again under its own power ;)

I have a set already sitting in the shed ;)
Considerably larger hey.

I have to wait for new balljoints and the new discs for the magna hubs and what not to arrive etc. Also gonna put new springs in at the same time, that way not pulling all apart again.

So... As some of you guys may know.

Seeing as the world hate me, the universe decided to make a roo commit suicide in front of the cordia the other week.

This is the result.

So the progress on fixing it started this morning.

I stripped of teh front end of my cordia, and the front off of a donor car i had arrive on saturday morning.

Here is the progress.

Through this week i will be sandblasting the front subframe and spraying it black to match the rest of my very shiny chasis, then i will weld it in place.

That's bad luck mate. I took out a couple of roos in the cordia out near cunnamulla a few years back. Your lucky you didn't have an intercooler to destroy. Worst thing was running over a dead one that i didn't see until too late, realising it was too big to drive over, and then having the smell of bbq'd roo for the next couple of weeks as chunks of meat and fur got stuck to the gearbox. At least your radiator survived.

Just keeping ya's up to date.

Today i did a TODO list of the things that are going to be completed before this thing is back on the road.
I've gone this far.. the plan is to finish absolutely everything!

The LIST.

- Sandblast and paint front subframe

- fit all front panels.

- repair bumper/get new one.

- swap fuel pump/tank??

- fix leaks with stuff bought from bunnings.

- remove and paint all trims black.

- Relocate battery to boot

- Install Cold air intake

- (after painting of bonnnet) Install heat sheild to cover up cutout and protect bonnet paint.

- Try to install washer bottol using spout from teh Blue GSR

------------------------------------------------------

Paint/Prep

- Mark out all dings and imperfections.

- Fix dings and imperfections and primer area with HiFill.

- Prime/Paint panel by panel

------------------------------------------------------

interior

- Swap Roof linings, visors and maybe rear side panels with GSR.

- Build bonnet floor/frame

- repair bonnet pascel shelf and put speakers in the holes.

- replace front carpet. (Maybe with GSR carpet... looks good)

- Window winders...

- Build custom centre console.

Well with the rain the last few weeks.. I literally haven't been able to get much done. Too much humidity to do painting, and cant open shed door for more room due to rain.

But finally this afternoon the weather cleared up, and humidity was down. So this is what i've been up too :)

Front subframe is now welded on, and painted. :)

Great work with the cutting disc Damien.........just remember when you cut the donor section out, make sure you overcut.

Once you have the panel removed, where possible bend the in an "S" shape and tuck this behind the original panel.......this will make the panel stable to weld and will give a better finish.

Thanks mate.

yes I will be sure to do that :) Great idea. Will give me somthing to weld to. I was gonna use a 2nd strip behind the 2 panels. But making a S bend on the edge will probally be allot cleaner.

Will keep you up to date. its the first time i've done this. So i'm just taking my time with the patching :).

I thought seeing as i'm going to all this effort, I dont want to ever have to go back and re-do anything. So once all teh platings done, will just regularly replenish rust retarder in all the cavities every 6 months. So i shouldnt have to touch it again after the new paint goes on ;)

Welded in the patch panel this afternoon :)
Still needs to be ground down flat.
Then just matter of a thin layer of filler and primer/sealer so I can move on.

I understand that with MIG welding heat and therefore warp can become an issue, but will you be filling in the gaps?

If not, I recommend you use a product called "Kneed-It" to do so. It can be purchased at Bunnings and will ensure your filler does not (over time) crack at the un-welded seam.

Well. I was going to be joining all of the spots.

as you can see in the bottom right of the join. But I ended up running out of Gas.

I do have a Seam Sealer that is actually meant for sealing patch panels in which I'm going to be using for the inner side to lock out moisture. It also says its sandable/paintable/flexable.
So I assume it would do the same job as Keed-It hey?

:)
