OK.......as per your pic:

Starting at the bottom........
1. this line comes off the fuel tank
2. CARB........not used on a GSR so block it off
3. Is activated carbon.....you need the 3 way valve to run it properly......2 vac lines and one line to the rubber inlet tract. (before throttle body)

Thanks for the 6 pack ( coopers celebration.. a dam good beer )

Give the face of the flywheel and pressure plate a rub down
with 1000 grade wet and dry to remove any contaminants.

look forward to a cruise when its all up and running ....

Just an update.

Engine bay dried, and masking tape and waht not removed.
Did the whole front frame, for rust protection.

Image

The lower half of the firewall is unchanged, 1 because the paint was in really good nic back there, and you barely see it.
Also it being same colour as car gives it more contrast.
Engine is silver on top and black on bottom, so firwall is opposite

yeah nothing else set up.

basicly what i did was put the original unmodified cordia harness back in.
And see if i get power to everything. and try to crank the motor. My plan for the wiring is to run the stock harness for the starter and everything else and leave in untouched. (except remove any unused plugs and tape off ends then hide inthe conduit)

Then i will run the injection and ignition only from a stripped down version of the 63 harness plugged into the ECU. And just feed it and the igniter AUX power on there own seperate fuse box.

That way i will keep things simple in the respect taht i if somthing goes wrong down the track with the cordia harness i have a stock cordia harness.
And the injection/ignition harness will be simpler to diagnose if i have any problems with taht too.

Sound like a plan?? :)

ok i have yet another question.

I think my Fuel pump is cactus.

Heres the storey. Just before i pulled the old motor out of the cordia. It had been sitting for a couple months.
Then wehn i turned it on, it barly idled, and barely reved over 1500 RPM and shot pressure back out of the top of the carby.
So anyways today when i was hooking up fuel to the injection system. I decided to turn the ignition on to see if the fuel pump kicked in and started pushing fuel through.
And it didnt.. nothing comes out of the fuel filter, and nothing is before it.

I then went to the rear of the car and listened for a pump. Couldnt hear anything.

I then noticed there is a plug with 3 wires. A black one, and a couple of coloured ones.
When i put my multimetre on the black wire and then on the 1st coloured one i get 12v, and then still on ground but connected positive to the 2nd coloured one i get about 6v.

So im assuming this is the power for the fuel pump? so im getting power. (this is with the plug pulled off of the fuel pump and mesuring the side that coems from the harness, if i plug it back into the cables going into the tank and probe the back of the plugs, i stil get around the same minus 0.5v ish.)

Has my pump died??
Is there even a pump in the GSL? or is it just vacume sucked by the carby??

Im gonna price up both a GSL and GSR pump when i go into town today. Will be back later.
But not buying it yet.

Please help......... lol

Cheers.

Damien,
The GSL doesn't run a high pressure pump, you will need to fit one.

The fuel pump on the 37 is mounted on the head run by the camshaft.

The loom you are talking about is the fuel sender for the fuel gauge.

haha i feel like a idiot.

I discovered that when the guy behind the counter told me there's a mechanical pump part number for the GSl and a electrical for the GSR.

Damn..

Hmm he reckons $370 for a new GSR pump!! DAMN!! I might have a look at the one off of the sonata. See if it might fit... no idea..
Where abouts are they fitted on a cordia.

Fuel delivery is the one part of cars i havent had much to do with... 0.o..

Now i noticed on the part number book, it said that it was an external pump. So can i just mount it inline on the outlet of the tank?
If i was to get just a universal external Electric pump any idea if that would be ok?

Anyway on the light side.
I've put most of the engine loom in and run the cables into the cabin.
Have just started tidying it up and what not.
Gonna try and get it to the point this afternoon of having spark, and the injectors pulsing ;)

The GSR fuel pump is mounted under the passenger side of the fuel tank........getting the pump is easy, but you will need a GSR "main" relay to run the injection..........more wiring is required.

Do you have a return line to the fuel tank?

I do belive i have a return fuel line. It was hooked to the carby.
As there is 3 lines that are bunched together that come from the tank.

1 goes to the fuel filter, so i assumed outlet.
1 goes to that emissions thing. So i've put that back and will hook up vacume when im up to that point.
and then there was another one hooked to the other side of the carby which was wet when i took it out.
So i simply am assuming that is a return line.

GSR main relay?
When you say to run the injection? are you meaning to run the fuel pump? couldnt i just rig up a relay that switches it on when the key is in the "on" position?

Other then that my plan is to power the sonata wiring harness by splicing into the main power rails in the stock relay box from the GSL.
I would assume that would get the injectors firing and spark going....?

Are you meaning a little module that sits near the ECU?
If so the injection relay thing is plugged in ;)

awsome im sure that diagram will be of some help.

But yeah im pretty sure i've hooked up the Injector relay properly. We'll see though ;)
I am currently trying to find which wires to power on the sonata harness. So getting there.

But yeah next thing im gonna do is sort out this fuel pump. As pretty important ahahah.
I'll keep you posted.
I also found that on ebay i can get the GSR pump for 179. Much cheaper then at autoone.

Tomorow ill take a look at the sonata pump. See if i can put it in place of a GSR one.
Seeing as there external im sure it should be able to be made to fit ;)

Don't forget to change the any of the rubber fuel line to
efi rated as the normal carby fuel line may not handle the higher
fuel pressure
