I've just uploaded a video of this noise that's developed over the last couple of months ..

Unsure if it's a bearing, pulley, tensioner etc. or something completely different, but it's driving me up the wall.

It starts getting noisy after the cars warmed up. It takes me 20 minutes to get to work by the time I pull up to the first set of lights it's very noticable.

Can't really hear the noise over the exhaust..........is it a large "rumble" noise?
The faster the engine turns the loader the rumble gets?

The tensioners do shit themselves.........quick trick.....remove the front timing cover and spray the belt with CRC (with the engine running)......this will lubricate the tensioner.......if the noise disappears you have found the culprit. :)

Unfortunatey the sound quality isn't the best, but it's more of a vibration sort of noise that you can hear which overpowers the sound of the engine ? That 'main' noise you can hear in the video.

It stays at a constant sound level too & isn't affected if you give it a rev either.

Speaking of tensioners that's next on the to do list as well.

Warm the engine up till it is making that noise then take the accessory belts off and run it. See if the noise stops. You should be able to feel any roughness in the pulleys. If it is still noisy, then it is under the covers.

Well that's a concern.........the sound should either get loader or quickly disappear when the engine is revved and return..........nothing remains constant in the engine.

I'll have to give that a shot this week as soon as I can, if I leave it any longer it's going to cost me a set of safety ear muffs to start wearing.

Sorry I'll rephrase that, it stays at a constant unaffected sound level & does not increase in loudness if you give it a rev. Though yes it does disappear & returns once you take your foot of the pedal. 8)

Does the noise sound like its coming from the front of the engine? Sometimes the distributors in these old girls can be noisy too.

Yeah definitely the front of engine area, it's just hard to determine where it's actually coming from.

Plan is to eventually replace what I can & rid of the 27 year old parts before they start replacing me.
