After a few night cruises over the past few weeks I've been told the Cordia has been shooting some serious flames when gearing down etc. And backfires any other time of the day, even with the factory exhaust you would get a pop here & there, but it has always been that way since as long as I could remember as it's been in the family for quite some time.

It's shitting me now so it's probably time to do something about, lol.

Is it just a timing adjustment scenario ? Any help there would be appreciated.

Cheers

Check that the ignition timing is not too retarded. Check for air leaks into the exhaust. Possibly the carby needs looking at. You can also try blocking the vacuum line going to the reed valve near the exhaust manifold if your car has one.

The vacuum diaphragm in the advance unit is not working........you will have static timing and centrifugal advance via the bob weights, but the breaker plate won't move under vacuum giving mechanical advance.

This will also cause poor fuel mileage.

Thanks for the replies, Andrew is there a way to repair it ? I've never had to deal with a problem like this before to be honest.

They are a sealed unit.........once the diaphragm is gone it's time for a new/secondhand one.

Easy way to check if its working is to put some vacc line on it.......remove the dizzy cap and suck on the end of the line. You should see the breaker plate move and feel resistance, and it should stay there if you cover the end with your tongue.

If you don't like doing that use a vacuum pump instead. :)

Yeah you still might be able to get a new vac. advance from here:

http://www.nardek.com.au/

Bought mine in 2007.

Part number is: NVA-503

All up cost me $93 including freight.

Thanks a lot for that, I couldn't seem to find that part # nor one to suite the 4G37 (although the Nimbus is listed but has a different Distributer number) so I've emailed them with mine in hopes they still have something available.

Quite a handy website.

Just browsing eBay & came across this -

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MITSUBISHI-CANTER-CORDIA-L300-SIGMA-PAJERO-TRITON-MIKUNI-SECONDARY-DIAPHRAGM-86-/190585281230?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5fc49ace

Year, model & engine are all correct on their applications list.

Can anyone confirm this is 100% correct before I make a purchase :)

Here is what I got from Nardek "Sorry they are too old and we cannot supply them."

I'll make some calls today, see if I have any luck.
