Looking into an 18G turbo of an evo9... Any feed back on this turbo would be great?

evo 9 turbo hmmm
the inlet and outlet are on the wrong side, and the turbo rotates the wrong direction

Evo 3 16g with a 18 or 20g wheel in it. Kando_dynamics on ebay does a direct bolt in 18 and 20g wheel kit for the E3 16g's.

Seem to always get spoken about positively for quality as well.

Went to my friends yesterday who owns an evo 7 who also has upgraded to an 18g. And I can get his 16g with dump pipe for $400, is this a good price??? It's only done 60k and no shaft play and boosted hard on his evo. My question is how good is it in comparison to a t28 that I have???

Anything after Evo 3 won't fit. You can get an E3 Big 16g for less than that, dump pipes are pretty easy to pick up for them as well.

Doesn't matter if it is a good price or not cause it still won't work

Ok then, I'm waiting on a reply from Koray about his 16g that he offered earlier in the thread, i just want to know the comparisons between my t28 and the 16g, eg. Spooling rpm range and performance...

Hands down 16g in my opinion. There is plenty of info out there on them, have a search on DSM forums. Link for one is below. TD05's are a decent turbo, if you go the 20g wheel in the and are going to do some SERIOUS engine mods (decent head work, 272 cam, forgies etc) it is perfect for big boost. The 20g wheels are in their peak in the low-mid 20 psi range. There is also plenty of info around on the 20g wheels, granted its on the 2l DOHC cam engines but still a good read.

Dont see many people swapping a TD05 for a T28 on a mitsi engine, good indication of whats the best option. If you are hesitant, give me a few weeks and once my car is all finished I'll take you for a spin. Different engines but will give you an idea of potential.

I dont think ill run over 20psi with the engine cause my not end up doing the pistons cause the motor is still fresh, ill prob get it tuned to 18psi, so the 16g with 18g wheel inside is sounding better, but is that the complete inside a 18g or just one side? Smokincordia i cant wait to see how your car gets tuned by CV?

as the others mentioned, best option is the early style td05!
They are the easiest turbo to fit to a cordia out of all the ones you have listed, easy to get a hold of, good price and best of all there are a bunch of varieties to suit various power levels and spool times - from standard td05h-14b-6cm from a standard vr4 which I imagine would have similar spool to a standard tc05 right up to 450+ hp rated combinations with various compressor and turbine wheels.
Infact, I plan to upgrade to a td05h 20g later this year (not on a cordia though) for the exact reasons i mentioned above.
For you, as the others have said - td05h 16g off an evo 1-3, no contest really!

next would be t3/t4. harder to fit, but again easy to hold of, not too dear and plenty of combos to suit your needs.

next would be garrett GT series. everything applies from my t3/t4 statement except its dearer again.

unless you can make exhaust manifolds, dump pipes, IC piping etc. or know somebody who can do it for free/cheap, then there is no real point considering any other turbos in my opinion - too much work and cost, not enough gain or options. It's that simple.
as for spool times, power potential etc. look at manufacturer's websites and GOOGLE my friend. tons of info out there!

EDIT: just saw your post above. 18g, 16g etc. refers to the compressor wheel only. td05h, td06 etc. turbine wheel only. 6cm, 10cm turbine housing size ;)

Does the 16g bolt straight up? The t28 i had i just got made up an adapter plate to suit. When i get the 16g it will get it sent to GCG turbos in sydney to change the internals to an 18g...

have a search mate, there is a guide on this forum.

why would you wanna go to an 18g? the 16g should flow more than enough for ya, and save you some coin on getting the highflow done!

I agree with the above. If you have a SOHC engine then there is no point going any bigger than a 16G, because your head wont flow enough.

I just read an old thread that petert had bolted a 16g turbo up to the 4g62 motor and the 16g bolted straight on to the original manifold, thats great to know. i already have a custom oil line done that i used with the t28, might be able to use it for the 16g depending on banjo bolt size i guess, i guess i will stick to the 16g without the 18g internals. Petert had grinded the end of manifold that bolts to the turbo to suit the size of the 16g which i will do too. Just waiting for Koray to get back to me with a price for the 16g he has or unless someone else is selling one please let me know...

I have the Galant MPI for my car, i was wondering if its a big job swapping the side as to where the intake will sit, so from the front of the car going into the intake right to left instead of left to right? Would also be good cause less cooler piping?

Going to GCG to get the thing balanced won't be the cheapest option i don't think. But if you do let us know how it goes.

I've also got a custom made 1inch thick steel adaptor plate that helped a GT25 bolt up to a standard manifold. It wasn't pretty and when i took it apart there were several spots where exhaust gasses were leaking. Your much better off having a turbo bolt directly to a manifold and making sure your turbo outlet and dump are as free flowing as possible.

Spoke to my machine shop, and have organized for him to swap my intake over to the passenger side, so happy less cooler pipping.
