Post subject:  Vr4 inlet manifolds?????

Ok, i have read a lot of discussions about big port VR4 vs small port evo's and what would work better with the vr4's inlet... Using evo 1-2 or evo 3 inlets, n/a galant gsr inlets, removing butterflies, restricting the inlet on the head to make it like an evo, using xf falcon TB's.....

I am strongly thinking about fitting a n/a galant gsr manifold with a vr4 TB and modified inlet pipe as i have heard this would benefit mid to high power, but thought i would throw it up for discussion here and see what other people have done????

From what I have read the N/A heads are more high end which in my opionion is pointless really on Australian roads. How often will you be able to actually open up the top end power?

From driving a worked VR4 with a big turbo to an evo 3 with a smaller turbo I can tell you the difference is huge. 0-100 the evo engine left the VR4 engine for dead...it wasnt even a competition. 100+ is unknown to me, someone else can chip in.

What are you after, quick off the line or a massive figure on a dyno sheet? I used to be all about dyno figures but after driving in mine now, thats completely changed haha.

After happy medium.. I've stayed with small cams and dont want a massive turbo, i dont see any point in having all top end power..

Here is one post i was reading about power benefits, one person was saying:

Quote:
Evo 3 Manifold was X Honed for a extra 200CFM from memory Most power was Gained in the Mid range about 52HP and only 15hp top end. (with Tuning)

* Naturally Aspirated 4G63 intake manifolds are better suited for more mid-top end.
* Cyclone intake manny's are more suited to low down-mid range whiplash. Some guys remove the butterflies inside them for a bit better flow.

Has anyone dyno'd the difference to see where the gain is????

At the moment i just have the diaphragm for the butterfly zip tied open, as the microtech has nothing to do with it.

I used to use the cyclone intake mani with the old 14b setup.
But used an NA mani with the evo 7rs turbo.
For a street car you prolly will hardly notice the difference or will easily adjust to it.

I've actually got a spare of both. PM if interested.

Ive seen the aus VR4 or NA intake making 410wkw , but you cant fit a evo 1/2/3 onto the vr4 head as the ports dont match
