i was going to heavily modify to fit evo box, but to much messy work.
is that the ts/tr magna gearbox that 5th sin is running or a older tn/tp gearbox that u are talking about. i think i will be trying to fit a ts manual box soon, apparently fto lsd's fit in them as well.

I fitted a vr4 box and 4g63 in my cordia. Had to cut the chassis rail to make it fit and lots of grinding on different parts of the gearbox to clear the power steering etc.

Just about to try and fit a gearbox from a 93 glxi lancer as I ditched the 4g63 and am fitting a 4g92 mivec engine. I will keep you posted as to how well it fits.

I have just purchased a TR-TS magna gearbox.......from what it can see they are 15mm longer but 30mm wider for the diff casting.

This SHOULD clear the cordia chassis rails as there is 5mm to play with, the only downside is the cable shift and offset of the driveshafts.

For all of you who MAY need to replace the cordia box here is a quick update:

The TR-TS magna box or Proton Satria MAY fit the cordia.

So far I have installed the TR-TS box onto a narrow block VR4.

Image

The only problem is the cordia passenger side CV won't clear the block...........time for equal length drive.

Image

The stater motor now has to throw out another 15mm, which will need to be a magna reduction drive unit.

I'll keep you updated on progress.

Most probably............not too sure the original gearbox will last!

Need to do more research though..........the driveshafts are actually 10mm higher in the box, plus I need the shifter and cables.

The magna box looks like a NO GO.........after some measurements here is what I have come up with:

Gearbox mount needs to be moved forward by 15mm to fit the original mount, this leaves 45mm of the rear extension housing to fit..........the cordia only has another 15mm between the rails, leaving me to find another 30mm.......it's too long.

The other trouble is the shift rails, they actually sit hard on the bottom radiator hose.......even though this can be engineered out, with a 104mm mouth on the turbo the linkage will hit the induction pipe and jam on the rad pipe!

Plus my air to water intercooler won't fit as it fouls the shift cables..........AH well time to look at a Proton Satria GTI box.

Good work Andrew, hope the proton box works for you!

Any chance of there being another variant of the magna box which might fit? maybe the Tp box?

Or, why not another cordia box?

Thanks Koray,
Might have a look, but the TP's are getting old now.....might be hard to find one without syncro problems.......the project was only to see if another box will fit.......I'll keep trying though.

damn it! The biggest drama there is the chasis rail..

The rear extension housing you are talking about is the end cap cover, which covers the viscous gears that everyone welds up to make a locker? does it sit under the rail? The gearbox mount can be modified surely?

i wonder how 5th sin did it, maybe he chopped the rail..

maybe if you can modify that end cap so it doesnt protude as much. I dont know, just throwing ideas around.. That is it a 4 cyc ts/tr gearbox? apparently there are differences. It's the one thing that really annoys me about the cordia, bloody gearbox..

If people need syncro rings i was able to get some from germany.

I'm still "messing" around with it............the mount is the easy part.........mainly looking at passenger side driveshaft as the magna intermediate shaft is compulsory, as normal CV's won't fit due to design......need to determine whether the magna shaft will bolt to the VR4 block and it's overall length.

Every other TR-TS box I have looked at is the same............early TM - TP may be different.

I'll have a good look when I'm at the wreckers next time.
