After a bit more research, i'm going to be putting all my money on the KM206/ F5M22 gearbox fitting. A cordia gearbox will fit a Nimbus UA-UC and there are some models that have these KM206/ F5M22 fitted. I have also seen a F5M22 fitted to a Tredia which has the same vehicle code as a cordia A211A- A213A.

There should still be heaps of these around and there are still parts for these. I also found out that they were fitted to some Hyuandai's (I think Elantra's).

I'm going try and fit one over the next few months, fingers crossed!!!

i also think a KM201/F5M21 may fit, but i don't think it will be as strong as the KM206.

Need to be careful with the KM206 in a nimbus as it's cable clutch.......probably better off getting one out of a Galant as they run hydraulic.

Spent today down at u-pull-it........looked a many mitsubishis and Hyundais...........even though many run the FM21 I finally bought some stuff off of a NA nimbus.

The NA nimbus gearbox mount fits the KM210 but sits a little high, but is in the right location for the cordia at 310mm from the edge of the bellhousing, 15mm less.

Image

The length of the magna shifter cables has me worried as they look too long............nimbus cables might be better suited.

Image

But after a quick mockup it looks like the TR-TS box will fit with the inner guard cut to allow the extra 15mm.

good pics.. What do you mean by right location but sits high? Mounts to the gearbox and comes out far enough to mount the rail, but it sits to high on the rail?

Come back to Australia on Thursday after 4 months in the desert :D :D

If you measure the cordia box from the edge of the bellhousing to the middle of the bolt hole horizontally it's 310mm.

Using a spirit level the height is 80mm from the centre hole, where the nimbus setup on the km210 comes in at 65mm........just need to grind one of the location holes down on the box.

Nah............just need to grind down one of the mountings on the KM210..........there are 3.........the right is not used, but the other 2 one is 15mm higher over the base mount.

Update:
Big thanks to Koray for getting me the VR4 intermediate shaft quickly.................but the shaft won't align to the block.

Image

It sits 20mm too far forward and 20mm too high.

Looks like the only option I have is to loose the equal length drive for a straight driveshaft............this also creates a problem as the TR -TS Magna is 100mm longer in width leaving 50mm per driveshaft.............I don't think it will happen............but I'll keep soldiering on!...............might grab a Galant shaft this weekend.

It's looking like the KM 206 is the better option!

Alright...........I'm starting to think that 5thsin doesn't run a KM210, but a KM206...............I purchased a passenger side Galant driveshaft this morning...........on installation the diff won't turn as the driveshaft locks itself against the block & gearbox.

Image

I had another look through the article.........I have noticed the photo showing the engine bay is a little dark.............HUMMM.

I've had a read on 4GTuner with guys who have replaced a FM22 with a FM31 (KM210) and it's a direct swap?...........bullshit!

Today I purchased a TP Magna shaft..........fits the box and aligns to the VR4 Block, but the driveshaft configuration is wrong.

Image

As seen in the pic:
Top shaft - TP Magna from FM31 (KM210) 50mm too long
Cordia turbo normal shaft........no good.
DOHC N/A Galant shaft from FM22 (KM206).......hits the gearbox and block

So if someone else can help me it's greatly appreciated!

How much does the cv joint interfere with the block and gearbox? Can it be turned down on a lathe?

Thanks Coopler but that's not the issue............the guys on 4Gtuner said it was a straight swap from a 206 to a 210............It's not looking like it..........plus I'm WAY out of pocket!!!

I will need to remove about 4 - 5mm of material from the block and box for the driveshaft to move freely.

Well, still trying to figure out the driveshaft issue.........in the mean time I've mocked up the cordia radiator........at least a bottom hose from a DOHC Galant fits and clears the gear selectors.

Still soldiering on for you guys!

After more stuffing around I have decided to purchase a KM 206 (FM22) from a Galant.......at least this way I won't have to worry about changing the flywheel and clutch configuration.

Oh........and a TR-TS magna gearbox slave fits the cordia box.

Thanks for the praise..............I love an engineering challenge!

Here is a pic of the TR-TS slave on the cordia box.........you will need to change the fork over though.

Image

I was reading the 5thsin article again and something struck me........he must be running a KM206 as he states "a modified Galant shifter was used"........humm........funny thing is Magna, Nimbus, Lancer and Galant all run the same shifter but the Galant cables won't fit a Magna box!

Update:
Purchased a rebuilt KM206 today at an astronomical price..............mocked it up..............everything fits!

Image

As seen in the pic the magna box is 10mm longer. (KM210)

Purchased the Galant shifter and cables:

Image

Here is the height different between the cordia and N/A Galant, it's only 20mm:

Image

Even the equal length drive will fit:

Image

The only thing I did notice is that the Galant mount sits off to an angle..........easy fix.......use a UA Nimbus mount to fit the cordia chassis..........just need to give the box a degrease and fit it once the other one blows.

So is this gonna fit with no mod's to the chassis rail ? or does chassis rail still need modding ?
cause i'll be doing mine straight away if it does,
i wonder if the galant box would have a bit of a taller gear ratio
