I currently have a VR4 engine in a Cordia and wish to replace the engine. I can get an EVO3 engine. Will it fit or are the engine mounts different?

Well, feel free to make work for yourself if you want...

The evo has the same firewall mount as the cordia/vr4, but it has no provision for a front mount (down the bottom of the radiator). I had to make one that mounts off the bell housing (not ideal, but it works).

The top timing cover mount is different also, but I think that a vr4-cordia mount will fit (not sure - check with mrbishi).

The big problem is that evo3 will have a 7-bolt flywheel, while cordias only have 6. I got the holes in the cordia flywheel filled and machined flat, the new 7 bolt pattern drilled, and then the back of the flywheel needed a touch of machining (the evo crank has a larger diameter than the cordia).

They're the big hassles - apart from that, it's just little things like hoses, airbox/filter combo fitting somewhere, little stuff (like the throttle body points straight at the clutch master cylinder - have fun with that one).

Hope that answers your questions.

yeah i wouldn't really suggest the conversion, however, apparently the vr4 motor is stronger, so hows about just replacing hte cams, turbo throttle if it's biger etc iwthe h evo ones but leave the vr4 block in it, hell change heads if it can be done, and oyull still have the stronger bottom end and a better top end and turbo etc...??

thats a plan i tells ya!!!...let me know if it's possible..

Dylan

Yep, afaik the evo's (at least early ones) had TD04's, same as the wrx and sti ran at same stage (obviously a different flange tho).

My evo engine has a TD04 on it - doesn't pull as strongly above 6000rpm, but up to that it's all good. Heaps of torque down low, really smooth motor.

A TD05 16G is tempting tho....

I thought that the evo's had td05s and the rvr had the td04

as for evo vs vr4 conversion the deans evo took about 2 weeks (by the time all the correct parts where sourced of a galant) and my vr4 took around half a day

both examples do not include wiring
