Hi All,
Always wondered why mitsi "de-tuned" the AC Cordia for unleaded 91 RON fuel?

Mainly to keep the engine alive due to poor fuel, with "better" fuel available today here is a way to return the AC to AB power output, I have done this on my AC and it goes like hell!

PLEASE BE WARNED THAT THIS MOD WILL REQUIRE THE USE OF 98+RON FUEL.

Firstly:
Piss off the AC distributor (3108).......total advance is only 40 degrees where the AB (3172) has a total of 44 degrees.

The reports of smaller heads and manifolds is bullshit.........they are the same as AB.

Camshaft timing changed between the models.

Run the AC E101, this has a basic timing retard of 12 degrees where the AB is 8 degrees, the more knock that is heard the more the timing will retard.

AB on left, AC on right, you can tell the difference by the sealing beading.

Run an AB boost/map sensor.........the AB tops out at 14 psi where the AC runs out at 12 psi........or you can run a fuel cut defender (the Jaycar one is great as it "clips" the max voltage to 3.8 volt)

Run a TC06 wastegate on the TC05 turbo.........the spring tension is different........TCO5 is set at 74.1 kpa (10.7 psi) and the AB is set at 83.7 kpa (12.1 psi) this is the main operating pressure.

TC05 wastegate.

The JA Starion ran 92 kpa (13.3 psi) on the TCO6........same as cordia but had a fuel cut of 15 psi.

Hope this helps others return the AC back to the future fuel levels.

Feedback welcome.

Cheers,
Andrew.

For the AB.........best thing I ever did (when leaded fuel was still around) was the fuel cut defender and three inch exhaust.........then came the T3/5 turbo, multi point injection with a wolf ECU was next..........still not enough........went 2.0 VR4 with Wolf 3d, still not enough.......2.3 VR4!

If you look closely the TC05 wastegate has a "bump" on the end.........3108 is stamped on the dizzy, its the last 4 digits as the others are the same, cams have different duration.........thanks Goran.
