I'm considering of doing away with the Red strip that runs through the side mouldings, either paint over with a different colour such as Black or White or if I can find a chrome strip that's thin enough to stick over it.

Has anyone ever bothered ??

I have come across an old photo on the web & the usual Red was instead White, if I can find it I'll post it.

Cheers.

It should be easy to do Mike.........rub the red section down, tape the moulding to show the red only, light coat of flexi prime then add colour......I'll be doing this on the AC as the red has turned pink. :)

You can use coloured pin striping tape, just get the right width to fit the inserts. I have silver on my GSR.

I'm trying to find a photo that shows the end result.

Just like that.

As you can see, mine's starting to peel a bit and I'm going to redo it shortly. It was already done to the car when I bought it so I don't know
how long mine's lasted for.

Shit, they were some quick replies ! Thanks guy's.

Andrew that was the pic ! Love how that Cordia is done, absolutely awesome.

Shadow child - I like the look of that method too. And will be interested to see how long the pin striping holds up for as well.

I think most if not all the automotive pinstriping tape is vinyl, so it will hold up very well provided it's applied to a well prepped surface.
I can say that mine hasn't deteriorated noticibly since purchasing the car 4 years ago, however she only saw 3000kms of use before being
confined to the shed. Going off the type of vinyl I would say at least 6 years if non garaged, and more if garaged/rarely driven.

Andrew, after the flexi prime are you going to use any old automotive paint ? Or go for a plastic paint ?

I will use an acrylic paint not enamel...........enamel may have good gloss but takes ages to dry.........acrylic has some flexibility when light applications are added.............Bright red is what I'll be using.

That will look great. Keen to see the refurbished end result ! I'll give it a go this weekend, I've never had to paint plastic or rubber before so I appreciate the info on it !

Painting rubber and plastic is basically the same as painting metal.......just need the flexi-prime for the paint to stick. :)
