Will the 4g54 be going into a cordia? I think what gsr-007 is trying to say is, performance wise, it's only really worth the time and money if you drop in a 4g63. But from what i've read on these forums the 4g54 is a wide block, so it won't fit into a cordia. Don't quote me on this...my memory has failed me before.

I knew a guy that had a 4g54 Sigma running twin webers and a big cam and headwork etc that did a 12 second 1/4 mile. However I have never seen a quick Magna with a 4g54.

it depends on what you wont them to do - I have run the 2.6 engine in NA form for hill climb and sprints and the car have done a few state race rounds circuit racing

and a NA engine it has made 119.5 Kw atw @ 6100 rpm but will easy spin past that

if you wont to make a 2.6 spin up and make good HP one of the biggest things is get as much weight out of the spinning mass

heres a few things to start you thinking
flywheel I made my own from 4140 steel under 5 kg that has most of the outer edges milled away to reduce the moment of inertia
I also run a light clutch
the crank has 2 kg machined off with knife edging
the front pulley is and under drive aluminium pully
the balance shafts were binned ( a real weekness in design for high revs )
the rods although are factory have been polished and peened with arp bolts
a crank scraper was made and fitted
along with a custom sump

the head started life on a magna it was ported the guides bulleted and the valves back cut
and has 3.5 mm removed from the face to up the comp
it runs quite a large cam with 300 deg duration on the inlet and 310 deg on the ex
cant remember the lift
the cam is dailed in using a redrilled cam gear
twin 45 mm webers with custom 41 mm chokes ( these are realy to small and will be replaced with a set of 50 mm quad tbs )

as you see theres not a lot left untouched in the engine and being a track car ( 1979 GE sigma ) it gets spun to 7200 a lot

very few things have gone wrong with the engines over a 10 year period
I run 1 bearing early on ( it was a 4g52 and found to have a fauty pump )
I've burnt a hole in a piston twice - not and engine fault more a tuning fault

as you can see I think a lot of these engines - if you do build one they are a very simple engine to work on
getting machining shops to do what you wont is the hardest thing

They are great engines and can make some good torque. I wouldn't bother trying to fit one in a Cordia, a lot easier just to go the usual VR4 route, but in a Sigma or early rear wheel drive Mitsu/Chrysler they can haul some ass. Of course, turbocharged they're even better, haha!

just to make it a little easier for your project

look around for a M6 or M7 head casting they were the heads on the TR magna
the marking is about the middle of the head on the exhuast side
the M6/7 has the best gas flow of any of the 4g54 heads
so theres a start
I just do a little clean up on the ports and remove the lump around the valve guide
and I also bullit the guide to make less of it in the air flow
the ports are already big enough so do nead to be inlarged but match them to the inlet manifold
have a set of 1 mm oversized valves fitted
I got mine from http://www.engnbldr.com/ in the states
they were real cheap but I dont know what stocks are like these days
3 sets in about 2008 cost $ 116 delivered and our dollar was pretty shit at the time

crow do an off the shelf double valve spring p/n 5840

you may have to machine the face a bit to get the comp up
I have machined up to 3.5 mm off these for my engines but there are some issues
with valve to piston clearance depending on what cam you use

anyway a head can be done while you are still driving around
and a great plan would be to pick up another block to do a full build
making a quick engine tranplant the only real down time for your car
