hey guys i am going to be upgrading my turbo soon and just wondering if extending the exhaust manifold to fit my new turbo is a good idea ore not??

i may even be lucky and it may fit straight on, but if not just a small adapter plate would it work ok or not say about 4/5 inches all depending

if not how much would it would a custom exhaust manifold cost to have made?? or should i just give it a shot my self

cheers dude,
still wondering if an adapter is a good idea or not, all it really means is that the gass will have to flow for a bit longer

if a GOOD welder does it yes it will... there are lots of tricks to the trade when it comes to welding cast iron... if you just blindly weld it you will crack it for sure

the main one is get it ALL hot... as far as i'm aware... i'm just a farmer who has tried to repair cast things many times with varying degrees of success....

you can buy cast arc rods.. not cheap though... i think you can use stainless ones aswell when ataching things to cast

last quote i got for a custom manifold for SOHC was about $1000+.
cast iron is something that you want to take to somebody who is experienced in it. i have a mate who is a boiler maker, and a mad welder, and he won't touch cast iron! same with a lot of places.
JPC in melb may do it, not cheap though. pretty sure they TIG with stainless rods.

i would either use an adapter plate.

but in all seriousness, how much power are you chasing? is it really too far for any bolt on mitsu turbo? gonna save you a whole lot of mucking around is all.......

trave you know where to find it all.
that is what i was looking at making at the time, who knows may go down the path later on but i think a 20g or 16g will go me fine, no need for over kill on a 1.8
