Has anybody on this forum had any experience importing parts, ie bulky and heavy, from the US? Found a gearbox for my other special interest vehicle, just wanted to know about freight and shipping etc. Thanks Ron

Yeah, it's pretty expensive mate. I think that pricing is governed by overall volume rather than weight. I had a box which contained cams, cam gears and valve springs sent from the US recently (roughly 600x450x300mm in size) and that cost me $88...

Thanks for that EVO. Was that door to door, or did you have to go to a depot etc.

yeah, I am pretty sure once orders exceed $1K, the import tax will apply. Maybe you could place two or three orders, all under $1k. The downside is that you'll have to pay for every delivery fee, but I think it'll turn out to be the lesser of two evils...

Anything below 1000 it's called a SAC entry and there is no duties with Customs.

Don't import 3 seperate shipments to avoid duty because if the come under a same vessel name which they will Customs will count them all 3 as 1 shipment.

The problem you will have is Quarantine on second hand parts that might cost you alot because it has to be fumigated properly, all up i wouldn't bother.

I am Customs broker take my advise.
