Hi all,

Dodgy Mechanic - REPCO Repairers at Tuggranong. ACT South

I just thought i would let you all know about the troubles i have had.
As you can all see, i have an 85 cordy.
I took it to REPCO Repairers at Tuggranong.

Problem: Engine swap required. Swap standard 1.8L Turbo motor for another stock 1.8L Turbo. extras - swap intake/exhaust manifolds, change cam belt, rear oil seal, tune, oil change.

Additional Problems after this:
Wiring to engine damaged. - replaced, now NO temp gauge wire.
Water pump - replaced new.
Oil Pump - replaced new gasket.
Clutch Master & Slave Cyl - both recoed.

$1500 later.

NOW: Cannot engage gears easily. Can't get reverse unless car off first.
NO 5th gear, acts like it is in 4th.
Major water leak from around Turbo.
Major Oil leak from around oil pump side of motor.
Bonnet & Roof scracthed from mechanic dragging bonnet across roof.
---------

The old engine dropped 3rd Cyl and ran like crap. Gearbox rang fine except occational little grind going into reverse and into 3rd on high boost. (14psi +)

----------
Thinking of taking him to Fair Trading soon.
Car is to go back tommorow. probably another 2 weeks he said after 3weeks of being in there now.

Please guys, tell me your horor stories so i dont feel do bad.

I've had no horror stories yet.worst one was when i took my white cordia in for rego and the dude hit me for $700 worth of work to get it passed (engine mounts. all master cylinders, cv boots, some other crap.) was probably fair enough, but damn. other than that i've had no trouble with anyone. Reliance did 90% of the work on my RX7 and they were a little pricey but did very, very good work, a credit to John Waterhouse. Advance tech auto in phillip also did well by me, except it takes 2 wekks to get a booking there :? . Just recently had my engine mount fixed and oile return leak and gearbox oil leak fixed at TEZ automotive in mawson. booked me in nice and quickly, end bill, $240, me, happy. Reliance is the only shop i'd sing the praises for. god damn they good at what they do. cept they're rotary specialists. and If i took my cordia to them after haveing the RX they'd have my head.

I'm not in the business of bagging businesses out, but that's bad. Just to be sure, have you been back to see them yet? What did they say? As well as trying to settle it with them, I would recommend writing an extremely polite yet strongly worded letter to their head office.

If you can't get what you want from them, contact your equivalents of the Dept. of Fair Trading, Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Authority and Consumer, Tenancy and Trader tribunal. As far as I know MaVRIA and the CTT are national, not sure about fair trading.

After you discuss the matter with the relevant authorities, you then write ANOTHER extremely polite yet even stronger worded letter advising the company of your actions. If you don't get what you want at this stage, take it to the tribunal and explain your case. You can claim what you've spent on their mistakes, and if the tribunal rules in your favour they will issue a legally binding order and Repco will be forced to pay.

Generally though, when businesses hear of those authorities they become very co-operative... most businesses don't want to get involved with em.

If you do go down this road, let us know how you go.

Astaroth.
