Heys guys ive been reading up on changing gearknobs so far ive got the new one on but i read that its possible to remove the chrome thing (the actual stick not the knob) that it screws on to? creating a shorter shifter? is this tru because i cant find out how to take off the chrome thing....

there is a diagram in the haynes manual about this i will try and scan it and put it up for you tomorrow. other than that all i can suggest is to get the new knob and go at your lever with a hack saw !! :lol:

There's a circlip under the chrome bit, take it off with your right angle circlip pliers and then the chrome piece pulls off. You might find it easier to locate if you use a small mirror to look up at the circlip.

pffft dont bother with any circlip actio, all you need is towels to cover your interior, sunnies and a good angle grinder! 2 mins, voilah! You got yourself a short shifter lol

Hey, I did this to my Cordia, its just a circlip as stated, best to get a mirror under there to take it off. To take the actual chrome part off, you'll need vice grips, and a lot of twisting and pulling, its not easy, but it will come off, its on very tight!

as for the results;
