Heya all,

Obviously for most insurance companies to insure u, the cars gotta hav an imobiliser... but is there any point having an alarm?

In my experience car alarms are dodgy things which go off without much cause and generally give headaches to any within earshot. Are they really worth it?

Also, whats with these mobile pager alarms?
*Beep Beep* *Your car has been stolen*
"F**K." (Reverend Lovejoy: "Thats the loudest profanity i've ever heard!")

-So now wot do u do? Head down to where u parked it and hope that theyre driving really slowly outta the car park so u can run up and do the whole terminator grabs thing onto the car?

What i mean is... it sounds cool... but is there a point to that either?

Im just looking for a bit of a discussion on alarms here so i can here wot people think :)

Thanx
-Loss

I reckon alarms are a good idea, I mean if you were breaking into a car and an alarm goes off, you would freak out and do the git...

It can stop the criminals from stealing your contents, as long as you have them firmly attached... Make sure all your subs speakers etc are firmly attached with square head screws.....

It's probably better to get a piezo pain generator siren installed inside the cabin under the dash. That way when it goes off it isn't quite as annoying unless your inside the car...

ok...I got alarm with immobiliser. My opinion......

Immobiliser may slow down the "opportunist"
Alarm may scare off kids
Wolf3d ECU has pin number security.....cannot start the car unless you bypass the ECU (see why I like the wolf?)

therefore....you can hit it, jack it trash it or tow it....but ya aint gonna drive it away...

Oh and, as the insurance company wants it there...it means I'm covered...

My local snap-on rep has an alarm/immoboliser on his truck that he can control with his phone.

If it gets pinched, it alerts his phone, it also has global positioning so it
can be quickly located. He can also shut the engine down and lock the
vehicle via his phone trapping thieves inside.

Pretty cool stuff.

Any reputable company produces a mobile paging alarm that allows full control through the phone.

Rhino's model is the RAM, I just installed the RA and it's great... I'm considering the pager module as well. It allows complete control from a phone and is a good system. Most others do a similar system so do some shopping around.

Just be prepped to spend some big dollars on a pager... Rhino RAM's go for abouit $700 new on ebay and I think they retail for almost a grand uninstalled...

Astaroth.

I just pull the coil wire off if I am in a place I am not sure of. A lot of theives dont' have the time to open the hood and check things out, they just give up. I laughed pretty hard watching some kids trying to start one of my old cars after breaking into it, they got arrested, and I got all the dammages paid for by the little bastards. A buddy of mine has installed a heavy duty switch on his main starter wire and extended it inside the car, he just reaches under the dash and turns it off. If you have a lot of stereo equipment and other nice stuff in the car that is a different story. An alarm will help to deter some of the rookie theives, and is probably a good idea if you have a basic stereo system that isn't worth a ton of money. Keep your stuff hidden if you can is the best bet, infinity perfects in the open don't last long no matter what alarm you have.
