Six coats of clear has achieved a great reflection.....a quick polish will make it better.

Looks like I'll be painting the car this Sunday.......it's going to be 39 degrees!

Just acrylic Damien.........don't want to kill myself and others using 2K. :)

Taken ages just to get this panel straight and align with the other panels!

Coolies. Yeah i've been messing around with acrylic for ages, i cant seem to get it to that level of gloss till i've given it a good cut/buff.
but hmm 6 layers of clear lol.. i usually do 3-4..

what thinner ratio are you using? and size spray tip? :)

I do have to paint the cordy again soon, im just wondering weaither to get a proper mask and do it in 2k

I use a 1.5 mm needle gun at 2.5 bar working pressure, as for the ration it depends on the air temp, the hotter it is add more thinners to ensure gloss.

My basic ratio per 1 litre is 200mm paint 800mm thinners.

wow really?

i've been doing a 400ml paint to 600ml thinners per litre.....

I'll give that a go and see what happens :)

Shit Damien that's nearly 50%........does your paint turn out "dry" looking and rough to touch?

Hot here in Adelaide today............after returning from a family outing I have achieved this:

Mirrors reassembled (Had to paint again)

Painted and cleared under the rear hatch:

Painted and cleared the inside of the drivers door:

Image

The passenger side quarter panel was next......but the wind started and crap was blowing into the paint so I gave it way, focusing on the plastic panels instead:

Image

Grille and eyebrows completed:

Includes blackouts:

Rear valance clear coated:

That's enough for today before I dehydrate! :)

Have cut the passenger door in today...........required removal of surface rust from the skid plate, re-primered rubbed back then colour added:

Looks great with 6 coats of clear:

Next is to wait for another great warm day to spray the whole car...........let's hope I get one before I start my new position. :)

The base red is caliper paint.........I've been looking for a "paint pen" to do the blackouts.................well turns out a DVD marker does the job.........add clear to seal..........finished.

Finally the AC has one coat of Atlantic blue:
Image

Time now to dry then rub over with some 1200 grit to remove any "silver" spots then its ready for a dust coat.......after that....on with the clear! :)

Post subject:  Re: My project AC GSR

Rubbed the AC down today......put a dust coat over the entire car........still not happy as some sections are "silver" in spots":

Looks great in the sun without clear:

One more rub back should do it.
