Big day on the car (after working this morning :)), every panel I remove is rusty.......even down to the plastic on the dashboard!

Spent the day rubbing panels........especially the ones underneath.........here how the front stone plates looked:

After rubbing back and spraying with stone guard:

Battery tray was rusty, the plastic coating had gone and had acid residue, here it is now:

Image

Removed the rust from the Airflow meter canister and painted satin black with the retaining clips renewed.

Still heaps more to do!

Does this look like vinyl?

It's actually stone guard rubbed back then colour coated.

More today:

Cleaned out behind the firewall, removed surface rust and coated in etch primer,

Fitted the refurbished fan, as the other one had a "butchered" wiring harness.

Image

Rubbed back and touched up the glove box.

Fitted the front vent plates on the dash.

That's all for now.

Nice work mate!

Will the 62 be coming out for a clean?

Yes Koray..........The engine actually needs oil control rings as the air cleaner was full of oil........best bit is the engine is compression healthy.

Dash looks mint mate. That old one was a bit worn out..

small progress again:

Washed and rubbed back the lower apron grille before covering in flexi-prime then satin black and straightened the front bumper stay, all fitted well before paint.

Image

Here is the lower GSR lip.........it was badly damaged, but alot of resin behind the initial "breaks" and a fitment to ensure it sat properly plus a little bog on the front (yet to be styled back) has turned it into this:

Post subject:  Re: My project AC GSR

Here is the front lip finally returned to its former glory.........just need to add the pinstripe.

Image

Repaired and painted the front vents:

Image

and the wipers (very rusty), still need to paint the bottom one:

Image

It just keeps on going.

Here is the front end........all done in etch primer (rusty on all of the seams) and covered in stone guard to resist return........panels are primered ready for rubbing back before colour coat.............the lower lip fitted like a glove.

Looking awesome mate!

What stone guard are you using on the seams? Wurth?

Post subject:  Re: My project AC GSR

I'm using the Motospray stuff.........just helps to stop moisture once the etch primer has dried.

I have also coated the rear of the panels (so far) aswell.

You don't stuff around Andrew! Looking good. Are you going to paint it the same colour???
Also, this is probably a dumb question, but that internal piece behind the firewall that you cleaned and primed... can it be removed easily??
