Right........really wanted the tape deck to work........have gone through 4 of the buggers with all the same symptom............well..............problem fixed!!!!

The culprit........the bands run by the motor........after replacing with twin "hair ties".........yes........I know have 2 fully functional:

The "worn" band:

Overall view after repair:

Both now play, but one is clearer than the other........time to clean the heads!!!

Your lucky you have a tape to play on it. I haven't seen a tape cassette in years.

What is the clear band made out of?

Long weekend...........means more work.....have purchased a muffler and chrome tip, completed the exhaust today.

Image

Not really happy with the outcome as the muffler is on an angle..........and the cordia didn't come out with a chrome tip........nothing wrong with a little custom work, and it's a quiet as a mouse!!!!!

Should I paint it black to make it less obvious?

The car had an outing...........started, reversed and drove in first very well.

Next........interior carpet......has been ordered. :)

Not happy after the car had cooled down.........it's been loosing coolant but I couldn't see where from........well after fitting the exhaust I found the rear section stained with dripping coolant, where is it coming from?

Same problem I had with the other manifold......from the casting that's welded.

Image

Image

You can easily see the "plug" is cracked through the weld!!!!!

Not happy, now have to remove and get welded!!!!...............GRRRRRRRRR :(

What a bugger. I had one go in the same spot, must be a common weakness.

Did you do the welding on the exhaust yourself?

Great progress Andrew, I have enjoyed this thread.

If you were in Melbourne I could have TIG'ed up the casting for you.

Now I'm pissed............yet another inlet manifold has "cracked" and loosing coolant...........my only conclusion is the EGR piping that is cast into these things is making my life HELL!!!!!!

If I can get another one I will put a bung in there to stop this from happening!!!!!!

Anyway, rear hatch rust repaired and rear wing returned to it's formal glory:
