The idea of turbocharging the 1.8 started back in 2001 when I bought the car at the age of 14. The project didn't take of till about 2005 when I bought my SRT-4 which took over the daily driver position. That's when the challenge began, Since there's absolutely no aftermarket for the 1.8. After months a research I found a few companies willing to make custom parts for the 1.8. I ordered all the parts needed to build the motor. After getting all my parts the machine shop was a bit hesitant to bore my motor .060 over but I talked them into doing it. It turned out fine. The machine shop was very impressed with my port work on my head that he was asking me to work with him lol. After a few months of tinkering I got the car running. After tuning the car I had problems holding headgaskets under boost. I went through about 3 head gaskets in 2 weeks. I later took the car of the road do to financial issues. Now I'm tweaking the car hoping to get all the power potential out of it.

The restoration portion of the project. Yes I have the 4G37 in a AWD chassis and No the car is not going to be AWD.

Removed the gas tank to clean up and paint.
Image

All Painted just need a few more coats and I still need to fix the tank studs.
Image

Next on the agenda is refurbishing the rear subframe and suspension components.
Image
Image

The underneath rear of the car is started to look empty. Still need to rip out all the fuel and brake lines and redo them with SS line and SS Braided Hose. I also started removing the surface rust from underneath so I can undercoat the whole thing.

Got the rear upper and lower control arms done. A few coats of paint, New ball joints, New OEM bolts, and Energy Suspension control arm bushings. The arms are as good as new. The sub-frame and trailing arms should be done by the weekend. All I gotta say is Rustoleum FTW I love this stuff.

Rear suspension is pretty much buttoned up.

Well the rear diff is need to hold up the rear suspension. I removed the drive shaft. Later down the road if the car makes good power I will convert it to AWD.

Sorry I forgot to mention in my first post that this isn't a Cordia its a 92 Eagle Talon. That rear end is what the car comes with from the factory.

Same things here in the states. Seems like I'm the only guy messing with the single cams.

wow that's awesome. I had a 4G37 myself in a Galant and I always wondered what sort of power could be had from them. I wanted to go the N/A route though, with really high compression (I was already running 10.5:1 as it was), a grumpy cam, decent valve springs and a good port job and quad throttlebodies. They're a pretty sturdy engine just as good as the 4G62/4G63 I reckon.

When I saw you put the rear diff back in I was thinking, sweet he's going RWD instead of FWD! May I ask why you're only going FWD when the AWD hardware is still there?

Right now I'm in the process of finding myself a AWD transmission. No one here in the states has ever made a 4G37 AWD so no one knows if its possible. I don't wanna say I'm going AWD then not being able to do it. I'd love to go AWD its just a matter of getting the pieces to fit and work.

you realise 4G37 shares the same bellhousing as 4G63 right? You could bolt on an eclipse/talon 4G63 1G gearbox or even use a Galant VR-4 gearbox. You'll need to use the 4G37 flywheel and clutch however as the 4g37 is 5 bolt crankshaft while 4G63 1G is 6 bolt crankshaft.

I know about the bellhousings. I also know that the 4g37 flywheel and the AWD 4g63 flywheel are the same size. I have already ordered the AWD starter plate. All I need is the transmission.
